La Ligne Verte (1999), known as The Green Mile in English, is a fantasy drama film directed by Frank Darabont, adapted from Stephen King’s 1996 novel of the same name. The film features a stellar cast, including Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, David Morse, and Bonnie Hunt.

Set in the 1930s in a death row prison, the film follows Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks), a corrections officer overseeing inmates on “The Green Mile,” the nickname for the stretch of floor leading to the execution chamber. The story is narrated by Paul, who reflects on a pivotal period in his life when he encountered John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a physically imposing yet gentle man sentenced to death for the brutal murder of two young girls.

As Paul and his fellow guards interact with Coffey, they come to realize that he possesses a miraculous ability to heal others and is not the monster he appears to be. The film explores themes of compassion, justice, and the moral complexities of the death penalty as Paul grapples with the realities of their situation and the humanity of those on death row.
