Bloodsport (1988) is a martial arts action film that became a cult classic, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme in one of his breakthrough roles.
The movie is loosely based on the real-life experiences of Frank Dux, a martial artist who participates in an underground, no-holds-barred fighting tournament called the “Kumite.”

Van Damme plays Dux, a U.S. Army captain who travels to Hong Kong to compete in the secret tournament, where fighters from all over the world come to test their skills.

The film is renowned for its intense fight scenes, showcasing Van Dammeโ€™s martial arts prowess, including his signature high-flying kicks and splits. The movie features a memorable villain, Chong Li, played by Bolo Yeung, whose brute strength and menacing presence add to the drama of the tournament.

Bloodsport is celebrated for its straightforward, high-octane action, along with its martial arts choreography and Van Damme’s charismatic performance. Despite its low budget, it gained a massive fanbase and became one of the defining films of the 1980s action genre.
