True Beauty (2020) is a South Korean romantic comedy series based on the popular webtoon of the same name, combining school drama, romance and a touch of comedy. Directed by Kim Sang-hyub, the series tells the story of Lim Ju-kyung (Moon Ga-young), a high school student who transforms into a beauty through makeup, hiding her insecurities and true identity to those around her.

Ju-kyung always had trouble with his appearance and suffered bullied for his girlish physique. After discovering the magic of makeup, she completely transforms her appearance, gaining confidence and becoming a “goddess” in her new school. However, despite his newfound beauty, Ju-kyung still struggles with the feeling of incompetence and the fear of being exposed for his natural, makeup-free self.

The plot gets complicated when he meets Lee Su-ho (Cha Eun-woo), a popular and attractive student who is intrigued by Ju-kyung’s unmentioned vulnerabilities. Their relationship develops as they deal with school life, complex emotions, and their shared experiences of concealing aspects of themselves. Ju-kyung also forges a bond with Han Seo-jun (Hwang In-yeop), another boy who approaches her, adding a layer of tension to this love triangle.
