1. Tears of the Sun (2003)

A Navy SEAL team, led by Lieutenant A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis), is sent into the Nigerian jungle to rescue Dr. Lena Kendricks (Monica Bellucci), a U.S. citizen who runs a Catholic mission. When they find her, she refuses to leave unless they also evacuate the 70 refugees under her care as the country is torn apart by a brutal civil war.

Waters is under strict orders to only extract the doctor. However, witnessing the horrific violence and the vulnerability of the refugees, he makes a moral decision to disobey orders and lead them on a perilous trek through the dense jungle to the Cameroon border, where they can seek asylum.

As they navigate the dangerous terrain, the SEALs and the refugees are relentlessly pursued by a large and heavily armed rebel force. The team uses their expert combat skills and tactical knowledge to evade and defend against the pursuing rebels. Along the way, Waters and his team face numerous challenges, including ambushes, close-quarters combat, and the constant threat of being overwhelmed.

2. Home of the Brave (2006)

Home of the Brave (2006) tells the story of four members of the Army National Guard as they return home to Spokane, Washington, after a tour of duty in Iraq. Their experiences in the war have profoundly affected each of them, and they struggle to readjust to civilian life.

The film opens with the soldiers โ€“ Will Marsh (Samuel L. Jackson), Vanessa Price (Jessica Biel), Tommy Yates (Brian Presley), and Jamal Aiken (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) โ€“ on a humanitarian mission in Iraq. Their convoy is ambushed, resulting in casualties and injuries. Vanessa loses her right hand, Tommy witnesses the death of his best friend, Jamal suffers a back injury, and Will, a doctor, is overwhelmed by the horrors he witnesses.

Back home, each soldier faces their own unique challenges. Will, a surgeon, becomes withdrawn and struggles to connect with his family, particularly his anti-war son. Vanessa grapples with the physical and emotional trauma of losing her hand and tries to resume her life as a teacher and coach. Tommy is haunted by the death of his friend and feels lost and aimless. Jamal becomes angry and bitter, struggling with his injury and feeling alienated.

The film explores the difficulties these soldiers face in dealing with PTSD, physical disabilities, and the disconnect between their war experiences and the everyday lives of their families and communities. They find it hard to communicate their feelings and often turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
