“Terra Nova” (2011)

Terra Nova (2011) is a science fiction television series that aired on Fox, created by Kelly Marcel and Craig Silverstein. Known for its ambitious premise, the show blends time travel, dinosaurs, and a futuristic society, yet despite strong fan interest and high production values, it lasted only one season with 13 episodes.

Set in the year 2149, Earth is on the brink of environmental collapse due to overpopulation and pollution. Scientists discover a rift in time that allows people to travel 85 million years into the past, during the prehistoric Cretaceous period. A colony known as “Terra Nova” is established, offering humanity a second chance to rebuild civilization and avoid the mistakes that led to Earth’s downfall.

The series primarily follows the Shannon family—Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara), a former police officer; his wife, Dr. Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn); and their children, Josh, Maddy, and Zoe—as they adjust to their new life in a dangerous world filled with prehistoric predators. As they navigate their surroundings, the family faces political intrigue, conflicts with other factions, and hidden truths about the time portal.
