“Top Gun,” released in 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, is an American action film produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer in collaboration with Paramount Pictures. The screenplay, penned by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr., draws inspiration from an article titled “Top Guns” by Ehud Yonay, originally published in California magazine three years prior.

The film stars Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis, supported by Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt. Cruise portrays Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a young naval aviator stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.
