Spider-Man 4 (2025) marks the highly anticipated return of Tobey Maguire as the beloved web-slinger in an epic continuation of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man universe. The film takes place several years after the events of Spider-Man 3, where Peter Parker has retired from his superhero life and now lives a quieter existence, still mourning the loss of his best friend, Harry Osborn, and trying to reconcile his past.
Peter, now in his late 30s, is married to Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), and they are expecting their first child. Peter has left behind his Spider-Man persona to focus on his family, and New York has seemingly moved on, with new heroes and villains rising in his absence. However, a new threat forces him to reconsider his retirement.
The main villain is Kraven the Hunter (played by Jason Momoa), a ruthless and skilled tracker who arrives in New York City with a single goal: to hunt down and kill Spider-Man, the ultimate prey. Kraven, having heard of Spider-Man’s legendary feats, becomes obsessed with proving himself by defeating the iconic hero. Initially unaware that Peter has retired, Kraven wreaks havoc across the city, forcing Peter to once again don the Spider-Man suit.
Peter struggles to balance his desire for a peaceful life with his responsibility as Spider-Man. As Kraven’s attacks grow more personal, endangering Mary Jane and the people Peter cares about, he realizes that hiding from his superhero identity is no longer an option.

In the climactic showdown, Kraven manages to capture Peter and drags him to a remote jungle-like environment created by Kraven himself, where the ultimate hunt begins. Peter, out of practice but relying on his wits, fights Kraven in an intense, emotionally charged battle. With Mary Jane’s life at stake, Peter finds the strength to defeat Kraven, but not without great personal cost.
The film ends with Peter contemplating his future as Spider-Man. As he stands atop a skyscraper, looking over New York City, the iconic theme music swells, suggesting that Spider-Man may never truly be able to walk away from his heroic duties.
