Directed by Frank Darabont and based on Stephen King’s novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.
It’s a powerful story of hope, friendship, and redemption set against the grim backdrop of a maximum-security prison.
Plot and Setting:
The film is set in Shawshank State Penitentiary, a fictional prison in Maine, and spans several decades beginning in the 1940s. It follows the story of Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins), a banker who is wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and her lover.
Over the years, Andy befriends Ellis “Red” Redding (played by Morgan Freeman), a fellow inmate known for being able to “get things.” The film explores their deepening friendship and Andyโs quiet, unyielding quest for justice and freedom.
