Popeye the Sailor Man

Will Smith | Emily Blunt |Dwayne Johnson | Awkwafina
In a bold, live-action reimagining, “Popeye” sets sail with muscle, heart, and humor. Will Smith bulks up as the spinach-loving sailor, whose home of Sweethaven faces takeover by the greedy industrialist Bluto (Dwayne Johnson). Emily Blunt plays Olive Oyl with wit and determination, while Awkwafina voices a wisecracking seagull who serves as Popeye’s feathered conscience.
The plot blends slapstick with a surprisingly heartfelt message about corporate greed and environmental destruction. Popeye, initially reluctant, rallies the quirky townsfolk to resist Bluto’s expansion, discovering in the process the truth about his father’s disappearance at sea.

Cena is a perfect mix of physical comedy and earnest charm. Blunt gives Olive Oyl agency and fire, and Jack Black is gloriously over-the-top, chewing scenery like it’s his own buffet. Musical numbers, choreographed like ship-deck brawls, inject bursts of energy, while CGI spinach power-ups bring cartoon absurdity to life.
It’s a colorful, joyous ride—equal parts nostalgia and reinvention.
