Plot Summary

Years after being crowned Jeddak of Helium, John Carter has brought relative peace to Barsoom (Mars). But when a cosmic rift opens near the Valley of Dor, ancient beings known as the Firstborn, long banished to the shadows of the planet, return with godlike powers and a hunger for conquest.

These forgotten rulersโ€”led by the enigmatic and ruthless Xar Thalon, a being tied to Barsoomโ€™s original creatorsโ€”seek to reclaim the planet and enslave its cities. Even worse, Dejah Thoris is captured, held hostage in the floating citadel of the Firstborn.

John Carter must unite the warring tribes of Barsoom: the Tharks, Red Martians, and White Apes, and journey beyond the known landsโ€”into the Black Dnes of Time, where memory itself can betray.
