🎬 The Medium (2021)

Introduction
The Medium is presented in a mockumentary style, blending documentary filmmaking with horror. A film crew travels to the Isan region of Thailand to document the life of a medium named Nim, who claims to be possessed by the local goddess Ba Yan, a protective ancestral spirit passed down through generations.Act 1: The Family and the Spirit Medium
Nim lives a quiet life in a rural village. She explains that in her family, the role of Ba Yan’s medium traditionally passes to the female descendants. Originally, Nim’s sister Noi was supposed to inherit the spirit, but she refused and converted to Christianity. As a result, Ba Yan chose Nim instead. The documentary crew follows Nim as she performs rituals and explains her beliefs. Soon, they begin to notice disturbing signs surrounding Noi’s daughter, Mink—a cheerful young woman who begins acting strangely.Act 2: Mink’s Behavior Changes
Mink starts to show odd behaviors: erratic mood swings, talking to herself, and exhibiting signs of being possessed by multiple spirits. At first, Nim believes that Mink may be the next vessel for Ba Yan. However, Mink’s behavior becomes increasingly violent and disturbing, including animal cruelty and inappropriate sexual behavior. Nim tries to perform rituals to cleanse Mink, but her attempts fail, suggesting that darker forces may be at play. Meanwhile, Mink’s family tries to downplay the situation, assuming she’s mentally ill or stressed.Act 3: The Truth and the Descent into Chaos
As Mink’s condition worsens, it becomes clear that this is not Ba Yan’s doing. Instead, Mink is possessed by multiple malicious spirits. The cause is later revealed to be tied to her family’s dark past and a curse resulting from ancestral sins, including betrayal and murder. Nim realizes too late that Ba Yan has abandoned her, and the protection once offered by the goddess is gone. With no divine guidance, the situation spirals out of control. The crew decides to film a major exorcism ritual involving several shamans. However, the ritual goes horribly wrong. The spirits lash out, possessing not only Mink but others present. Chaos and violence erupt—deaths occur, the documentary crew is attacked, and the rituals are corrupted.
