DEAD SILENCE 2 (2025)

Dead Silence 2 (2025) builds upon the chilling legacy of its predecessor, diving deeper into the terrifying world of the ventriloquist dolls and the dark mysteries that surround them. The movie opens with a haunting sense of dread, as we are transported back to Ravens Fair, a town haunted by its dark past and a series of unsolved murders that plagued the community decades ago.
This time, the focus shifts to a new protagonist, Lila Marshall (played by Florence Pugh), a determined investigator who recently moved to Ravens Fair. Lilaโs personal connection to the tragic events that took place all those years ago pulls her into the heart of the mystery, as she becomes obsessed with the story of Mary Shaw, the twisted ventriloquist from the original film. The doll, Billy, which is believed to be the key to the entire mystery, is once again at the center of this horror.
As Lila uncovers new clues, she begins to see the horrifying truths that no one could have anticipated. The dolls, seemingly inanimate, hold the souls of the victims, and they are not as harmless as they appear. The more Lila investigates, the more she realizes that Mary Shaw’s curse is far from broken and that the silence of the dolls may very well be their deadliest weapon. With each new discovery, Lila’s grip on her sanity begins to slip, and the town’s dark history threatens to swallow her whole.
The filmโs pacing is incredibly effective, using suspenseful quiet moments to build tension before erupting into shocking, heart-stopping sequences. The sound design, or lack thereof, plays a crucial role, amplifying the unnerving sense of isolation and fear. Every creak and whisper feels like an impending threat, and the eerie silence surrounding the dolls and their movements only adds to the sense of unease.
Directed by James Wan once again, the atmosphere is suffocating and unnervingly claustrophobic, allowing the audience to feel the fear of the characters. The practical effects and doll manipulation are expertly done, bringing the sinister ventriloquist figures to life in a way that evokes an ancient, malevolent force. The movie also explores deeper psychological themes, such as guilt, the consequences of past actions, and the inability to escape a haunting legacy.
