Movie Review: The Devil’s Light (2022)
⭐️⭐️½☆ (2.5/5)

The Devil’s Light is a supernatural horror film that tries to mix demonic possession with female empowerment, but only partially succeeds. Directed by Daniel Stamm, the movie follows Sister Ann, a nun who believes she’s been called to perform exorcisms—despite the Catholic Church’s longstanding refusal to allow women to do so.

Jacqueline Byers delivers a strong central performance as Ann, blending vulnerability with conviction. Her character’s arc—from devout believer to spiritual warrior—is compelling, even when the plot begins to buckle under its own weight.

The film has its moments. The exorcism scenes are intense, well-shot, and drenched in eerie atmosphere. There’s one particularly memorable possession that involves contorted bodies, unsettling whispers, and some genuinely disturbing imagery. The sound design also deserves credit for keeping the tension dialed up throughout.

But The Devil’s Light struggles with pacing and originality. Many scenes feel like rehashes of better possession films (The Exorcist, The Conjuring), and the third act leans heavily into CGI and genre clichés. The script occasionally dips into melodrama, and some of the supporting characters feel underdeveloped or thrown in just to raise the body count.

Still, for horror fans looking for a creepy night in, it’s a decent watch—especially in HD, where the visuals pop and the dim lighting works in the movie’s favor. Just don’t expect it to break new ground in the demonic horror genre.
