🎬 The Stand (2020)

The Stand (2020) is a miniseries that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a man-made virus called “Captain Trips” escapes from a military laboratory and spreads uncontrollably. This highly contagious and lethal flu wipes out over 99% of the world’s population in a matter of weeks, leading to the total collapse of civilization. In the aftermath of the outbreak, the few immune survivors begin to experience strange dreams. Some dream of Mother Abagail, a kind and deeply religious 108-year-old woman living in Nebraska, who calls them to gather in Boulder, Colorado. She represents hope, compassion, and the forces of good. Others dream of Randall Flagg, a mysterious and powerful dark figure with supernatural abilities. He sets up a brutal, fascist society in Las Vegas and represents evil, chaos, and temptation.
As the survivors make their way to one of these two leaders, they form communities—one guided by peace and rebuilding, the other by fear and control. The show follows several main characters, including Stu Redman, Frannie Goldsmith, Larry Underwood, and Harold Lauder, each with their own journeys and inner struggles. The conflict between good and evil intensifies as Flagg’s followers grow stronger and more dangerous. Ultimately, a small group of people from Boulder must make a courageous stand against Flagg and his followers in Las Vegas, risking their lives to stop evil from taking over the world.
The 2020 series features a new ending written by Stephen King, offering a different conclusion from the original novel. It explores deep themes such as morality, free will, the nature of good and evil, and how people respond when faced with the collapse of society.
