Movie Review: The Twilight Saga 6: The New Chapter (2025)
⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (3/5)

After more than a decade, The Twilight Saga returns with The New Chapter (2025), an ambitious attempt to revive the vampire-werewolf drama for a new generation. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (returning to the franchise), the film picks up years after the events of Breaking Dawn Part 2, introducing a fresh storyline while keeping enough of the original magic to please longtime fans.

Set 17 years after the Cullen family’s last confrontation, the film centers on Renesmee (played by rising star Ella Purnell), now a young adult grappling with her hybrid identity and an emerging threat from a new vampire coven that doesn’t follow the old rules. As tensions rise between the supernatural factions once again, the fragile peace that Bella and Edward fought for begins to unravel.

While Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson make brief but impactful appearances (in what can only be described as highly nostalgic cameos), the spotlight now belongs to the next generation. Purnell brings emotional depth to Renesmee, balancing strength with vulnerability, while Jacob (Taylor Lautner, returning with surprising intensity) becomes a more central figure, helping her navigate her place in the world.

The tone of the film is slightly more mature, with stronger visual effects, a more refined script, and themes of legacy, identity, and sacrifice. That said, it still leans into melodrama, and a few of the new characters feel underdeveloped. Fans of the original saga will find plenty to love — especially in the callbacks, familiar music cues, and the return to Forks — but newcomers may find it a bit too reliant on past lore.

The Twilight Saga: The New Chapter isn’t flawless, but it’s a bold and surprisingly heartfelt return to a world many thought was done for good.
