π¬ Siberia (2018) β A Cold Romance That Freezes Long Before It Burns βοΈπ
If you ever wondered what John Wick would be like if he traded bullets for diamonds and action for awkward silences, Siberia (2018) is your answer. Starring Keanu Reeves as a mysterious American diamond dealer named Lucas Hill (yes, really), the film attempts to be a seductive, slow-burn thriller set against the icy backdrop of Russia. Unfortunately, it mostly ends up as frozen potential.
Letβs start with the good: Keanu Reeves brings his trademark quiet intensity to the role, smuggling diamonds, secrets, and brooding stares through the Russian tundra. The cinematography is beautifulβRussia has never looked so bleak and mysteriously romantic. Thereβs a blue-gray filter on everything, and you can practically feel the cold through the screen.
But where the film tries to heat things up with a steamy romance between Reeves and a Russian cafΓ© owner (Ana Ularu), it mostly ends in lukewarm chemistry and long, uncomfortable pauses. The thriller elements are barely there, and the plot kind of wanders like it forgot its passport.
The pacing? Glacial. The tension? Sporadic. The ending? Letβs just say, donβt expect a Hollywood bow on this one.
In the end, Siberia feels like a beautiful postcard from a place youβre not sure you want to visit again. It’s moody, atmospheric, and a bit lostβkind of like its main character.
Rating: βοΈβοΈ β Watch it for the vibes and Keanuβs fur coat. Just donβt expect it to keep you warm.
