🎬 Cold Blood (2019) – A Chilly Thriller That Tries to Heat Up, But Just Barely Simmers ❄️🔫

Cold Blood (2019) promises a gritty assassin thriller set against the stark, snowy wilderness—but ends up delivering more frost than fire. Jean Reno returns to the hitman archetype that made him famous (Léon: The Professional), but this time, it’s a little… colder in every sense of the word.

Reno plays Henry, a retired killer living in icy isolation—until a wounded woman crashes near his remote cabin, dragging him back into a world of danger. The setup is pure noir gold, but the execution? More like slow-burn frozen soup.

The movie tries to mix meditative silence with bursts of suspense, but the pacing is uneven. At times, it feels like you’re watching a National Geographic special—stunning snow-covered landscapes and all—only to be jolted awake by the occasional gunshot or tense stare.

Jean Reno does what he can with the script, giving his character a quiet strength, but the dialogue is minimal, and the supporting cast feels more like cardboard cutouts than people caught in a life-or-death game.

There are a few moments of tension that work, and if you’re into minimalist thrillers with a side of snow survival, there’s something here for you. Just don’t expect John Wick in the snow—this is more Nap Time with a Gun.

Rating: ❄️❄️½ – Gorgeous setting, icy atmosphere, but the plot needed a little more heat.
