Movie Review: Girl House (2014)
⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
What do you get when you mix a slasher film with a webcam house full of models, add a masked killer, and sprinkle in some tech-era paranoia? Girl House (2014) — a bloody, surprisingly tense ride that blends exploitation with just enough plot to keep you watching (and wincing).
Directed by Trevor Matthews, Girl House follows college student Kylie (Ali Cobrin), who joins a cam girl mansion called “Girl House” to make some extra cash. It’s all fun, flirty, and digitally streamed… until a deranged viewer known only as “Loverboy” takes offense — and revenge. When he hacks into the system and breaks into the house, the cameras go from sexy entertainment to a live-streamed bloodbath.
Let’s be honest — this movie knows what it is. It’s not trying to win awards for deep dialogue or layered character arcs. But for what it is — a modern slasher with tech horror vibes — it actually delivers. The kills are brutal and inventive, the tension ramps up nicely, and the third act is pure cat-and-mouse mayhem.
Ali Cobrin holds her own as the “final girl,” bringing a grounded presence to a film that easily could’ve gone full caricature. And the killer? Creepy, memorable, and strangely effective — think Leatherface meets 4chan.
Where Girl House falls short is in its predictability. You can see most of the twists coming, and some of the characters are straight-up slasher bait with no development. But the film makes up for that with tight pacing, slick editing, and a killer (literally) soundtrack.
Final verdict: Girl House isn’t revolutionary, but it’s a nasty little thriller that’s better than it has any right to be. If you’re a fan of early 2000s slashers and don’t mind a bit of digital-era sleaze, this one’s worth a midnight watch — with the lights off and your webcam covered.
