Siren (2018) is a fantasy horror film directed by Gregg Bishop. The movie is a feature-length adaptation of one of the short segments from the 2012 horror anthology V/H/S. Siren expands on the story of the original short film, titled “Amateur Night,” and delves deeper into the lore of a mysterious and deadly creature known as Lilith.
The story follows Jonah (Chase Williamson), a groom-to-be who, along with his friends, embarks on a wild night out to celebrate his bachelor party. They stumble upon a mysterious and exclusive underground club, where they are promised an unforgettable night of entertainment. Inside, they encounter strange and unsettling performances, but the real attraction is a seductive and alluring woman named Lily (Hannah Fierman). Unbeknownst to Jonah and his friends, Lily is not an ordinary woman but a supernatural siren with deadly powers.
As the night unfolds, Jonah becomes captivated by Lily, and the situation quickly spirals out of control when they realize the true nature of the club and its inhabitants. Lily’s enchanting song begins to drive the men into a frenzy, revealing her true form as a creature capable of manipulating and destroying those who fall under her spell. What starts as a night of fun quickly turns into a desperate struggle for survival as Jonah and his friends attempt to escape the deadly clutches of Lily and the sinister forces that control the club.
Siren combines elements of horror, fantasy, and thriller to create a tense and unsettling atmosphere. The film explores themes of temptation, obsession, and the consequences of giving in to one’s darker desires. Lily, as the central antagonist, is both terrifying and tragic, a creature who is both a victim of her nature and a predator who preys on the weaknesses of others.
Hannah Fierman reprises her role as Lily from the original short film, delivering a performance that is both haunting and sympathetic. Her portrayal of the siren is a mix of vulnerability and menace, making Lily a memorable and complex character. The film also benefits from strong performances by the supporting cast, particularly Chase Williamson as Jonah, who goes from a carefree bachelor to a man desperately trying to survive a nightmarish ordeal.
