The Skeleton Key is a supernatural horror film directed by Iain Softley. The story follows Caroline Ellis (Kate Hudson), a hospice nurse who takes a job caring for an elderly man, Ben Devereaux (John Hurt), in a decrepit New Orleans mansion. As Caroline explores the house, she uncovers mysterious artifacts and learns about Hoodoo, a form of folk magic practiced in the area.

Despite warnings, she delves deeper into the mansion’s dark history and discovers that the malevolent supernatural forces within may be more real and dangerous than she ever imagined. The film weaves themes of belief, power, and the unknown into a chilling narrative set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Louisiana bayou.
