Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Jojo Rabbit” (2019) is a satirical black comedy-drama directed by Taika Waititi. Set during World War II, the film follows a young German boy named Jojo Betzler, a fervent member of the Hitler Youth whose world is turned upside down when he discovers that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl, Elsa, in their home.
Jojo grapples with his blind nationalism, which is humorously personified by his imaginary friend, a buffoonish version of Adolf Hitler, played by Waititi himself. As Jojo befriends Elsa, he begins to question the Nazi propaganda he’s been taught. The film blends humor and poignant drama to explore themes of indoctrination, tolerance, and the absurdity of hatred, ultimately delivering a heartfelt message about love and humanity.
