A Midnight Clear (1992)

A Midnight Clear is a war drama set during the final days of World War II, blending elements of anti-war sentiment and humanistic storytelling. Directed by Keith Gordon and based on the novel by William Wharton, the film is an exploration of the psychological and emotional toll of war, told through the eyes of a small group of American soldiers stationed in a remote area of the Ardennes forest in Belgium.

The film takes place in December 1944, just before the famous Battle of the Bulge, and focuses on a group of young soldiers who are tasked with guarding a small section of the front lines. With the war nearing its end, they are weary, traumatized, and disillusioned with the brutality of combat.

Their lives take an unexpected turn when they encounter a group of German soldiers who are equally weary and demoralized. This unlikely and fragile truce between the two groups serves as the core of the film.
